Healthy or Just Not Sick?

Healthy or Just Not Sick?

Are You Healthy or Just Not Sick?

“The last time I went to the Dr was years ago?” “I never get sick”
Does this sound like you??

While it is great that you may not get sick, what I often see is that there can be a misconception that this means you are healthy. “Well it does, I’m not sick” I hear you say. This can be true but sickness and illness is just the tip of the iceberg. It is a sign that there are significant imbalances, stress and dysfunction in the body. These imbalances and dysfunction can be around for a long time and while you may not be sick, it does prevent you from feeling as healthy as you could be. Its thought that when symptoms first start to appear we have lost up to 50% of the optimal functioning of our body. Stop and think about that for a  minute…

Symptoms are NOT normal. We are meant to be well. As we get a few years older people can often fall into the trap of accepting symptoms as normal. The few aches and pains in the morning , feeling a bit flat, the bloating, the few extras kilos is just what happens. We would argue that it doesn’t have to be like that.

A definition of Health that i quite like as defined by the World Health Organisation states

“a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

Something to remember though is that health ultimately is individually defined and health can look and be different for different people. I recently followed a really interesting discussion  around what health looks like but that’s a whole other article.

This is what I like to work towards, not just avoid sickness. I like to work towards optimal function and wellness. I like to take a holistic approach of not only your body but you as a human being.

Rather than take bandaid approaches like anti-inflammatories, caffeine and ant acids I like to look at what is causing the symptom and use the power of lifestyle medicine. I like to look at the iceberg itself. I look to uncover what is causing the stress on your system, what is driving the imbalances and then we can look to restore function.

If you are interested in looking into  if you are healthy or just not sick please get in touch. One step we can take is to take a close look at your  blood markers through an optimal health lens and see what opportunities we see to improve our health. We can look at markers for  inflammation, hormonal imbalances, liver and detoxification and also gain insight into digestive health to name a few. Don’t wait until you are sick….
